It is a type of senior care that allows older adults to live independently in their own accommodation, but with 24-hour staff available to provide personal care and support services as needed. These services can include help with the activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, eating, dressing, and taking medication. Assisted living communities also offer lifestyle services, such as meals, housekeeping, transportation, and social activities. The cost of assisted living depends on the level of care, the size and location of the accommodation, and the amenities and features of the community.

Long Term Care Medicaid
Medicaid is a health insurance program that is jointly regulated at the federal and state levels available to certain people with low income. This means that the U.S. government creates certain rules that apply to all state Medicaid programs while allowing each state to make individual choices about the programs they provide to their residents. Certain senior living communities accept Medicaid as payment, while others do not. If you have Medicaid, or want to learn if you’re eligible, you can contact one of our communities so we can connect you with our Medicaid consultant.

The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) offers benefits to help Veterans pay for increased senior care. The Aid and Attendance benefit is one of these programs and can provide eligible U.S. Military Veterans and their spouses over $2,600 of monthly, tax-free income, which can help cover the costs of their senior care. Eligibility can be determined in less than 5 minutes by reviewing wartime dates, discharge type, care needs, income, and assets. We have consultants that can help you determine eligibility and prepare and submit your application for benefits.

Veterans
Benefits
Many Veterans do not realize that they may be eligible for benefits from the Veterans Administration.
The Aid and Attendance benefit is a non-service connected pension benefit for Veterans or spouses who need assistance with the activities of daily living, such as bathing, feeding, grooming and dressing.
An individual residing in assisted living is generally presumed to be in need of aid and attendance.
To qualify, the Veteran must be 65 years of age or older and must have had 90 days in service, one day of which must have been during a period of war.
Even if the Veteran never left the United States, he may still qualify as long as he meets these service requirements. In addition, the Veteran must have been discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. The Veteran must qualify financially for Aid and Attendance benefits.
A surviving spouse may be entitled to a Veteran’s pension provided she was married to the Veteran at the time of the Veteran’s death.
Our community has partnered with a veteran care coordination company that assists Veterans and their spouses in enrolling into the Aid & Attendance program administered through the Veterans Administration.

Long Term Care
Medicaid
When considering assisted living for yourself or your loved one, cost can be one of the most important factors in the decision-making process.
As you look into finding the best fit for you or your loved one, you will need to know how you will pay for the community and if programs like Medicaid can help with the costs.
In the State of Florida, Medicaid can be used to help pay for some of the costs of the assisted living community if you or your loved one has limited income.
Medicaid is designed to help seniors pay for healthcare when they are unable to pay for it themselves.
